Sunday XI
In a 10 v 9 match, a youthful (plus Ozzy) Compton outfit opted to field first in a rare time game.
Wickets were hard to come by, as Arthur's XI made a solid start despite (ex-spinners) Alan and Sam bowling some good seam (once Sam found his line). Kai didn't quite find his length, and it wasn't until Stav was introduced that we got the breakthrough, Ben with the stumping and Avaneesh with a top catch. Bobs made sure we had plenty to chase (all part of his masterplan) before Boris and Avaneesh picked up a few late wickets. Opening up Robbie and Ben made a great start until Ben nicked behind. Bobs continued with Alan and both were looking good for fifties. Al failed, but Robbie got his fifty and kept going, a little cameo from Sam (nice reverse ramp) and Bobs brought up his maiden ton and saw the game home. Top knock Bobs. Even more remarkably though Bobs actually held a catch on the boundary! |

Having won the toss we batted first. After a shakey start, Adil in and Has caught, Stav and Carl built a partnership. Stav got a good one and at 58 for 3 it could have gone wrong. But Al and Carl batted really well, punishing the bad ball and taking easy singles. After both eventually fell we had a bit of a collapse, only just getting over 200.
In reply Liam and Carl bowled a great line and length, backed up by a solid performance in the field. The breakthroughs slowly came with consistent stump to stump bowling. Flitwick failed to build that meaningful partnership and with Has and Stav taking over from the seamers could only settle for the draw. |

At 34-0 after 9 overs Adelaide has made a decent start. What a difference a couple of overs makes. Carl got the breakthrough, then a run out and another catch after the no 4 went hard at his first ball when brad was introduced. Brad and Stav (who kept it very tight) bowled really well (except the odd bit of toot), and Adelaide never recovered, as wickets fell regularly.
With tea not ready we were straight back out. We lost a few more wickets than we should have, but completed the chase in only 19 overs. |

Losing the toss (again!), we were asked to bat on a good Stevenage track. Adil and Has put 40 for the first wicket before Adil knicked off to their useful opener. Stav hit a huge 6, before holing out (again) and Carl didn't last long, another away nipper from the opener. But Al and Has batted brilliantly, putting on 60 before Has tried to create too much angle. Al kept going, devastating the attack, ably supported by Liam. Although they had a couple of lives at the end the damage was already done anyway.
With a big target to chase Stevenage tried to attack, but mainly played and missed to start. The chances soon came, but so did the drops. Unfortunately this theme continued. We must have created 20 chances, but just didn't hold on often enough. Stav and Brad both bowled well, keeping it tight as the game got away from Stevenage. Once their main bat (who was the main bowler too) was gone Stevenage took a more cautious approach and in the end we only got them 7 down. CATCHES WIN MATCHES. |

Compton with the aid of covers restricted Northwood Town to 149-9 off 40 overs. There was good opening spells from Raja and Carl backed up by Stav and Liam. This left Compton 34 overs to chase. A good start was needed instead Compton was 18-4 off 11 effectively end the chase, with Northwood bowling tight and the odd ball misbehaving Al and Liam tried to combine attack with out being reckless. A good fifty from Al left Compton 108-4 after 34.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl. Willo and Bilal opened the bowling. Willo removed the two openers quickly, while Bilal had the number 4 well caught by a leaping Ben behind the sticks. 3 and 4 then put on a partnership of 22 to take them to 45 for 4. Wickets kept falling even with the interruption of rain for 49 minutes. Willo and Bilal bowled their full amount and after 30 overs they were 55-7. Some good batting from their number 8 saw them reach 100 all out with Tayyab and Mally finishing them off with the final wickets.
After tea we set about the chase which started well with Keith and Ben being positive. Ben then proceeded to liven things up but hitting one to the field and running leave Keith run out for 11. Looking back this could have been costly but instead Fawad came out to bat and hit the bowlers back over their heads for sixes and fours while Ben watched. After a 68 run partnership Ben went for the cut and was caught for 19 (a bystander while Fawad hit the runs!). Kash joined Fawad and the pair saw us home, with Kash 12* and Fawad 56*. |

Best Sunday game in a long while... and not just because I got runs.
A bit of an iffy start, cam plumb lbw(!?), bobs and peri bowled. Liam and Boris settled the ship and built a partnership. Once they went though Compton collapsed, the Colts mustering 0 between the 4 of them (Luke, Sam L, Niam & Alex). The Colts didn't bat well, but the bowled fantastic and contributed in an excellent fielding effort. Alan, and Stav bowled well from the other end. With the run rate required rising, after Cam got a breakthrough, their main bat went for one big shot too many and after the wickets came regularly. Great effort lads. |

Not the best performance from Compton, but fortunately not the strongest of oppos as several players were missing.
A rare toss win and Liam chose to bowl first. However things soon went off track with Watford Town reaching 78-1 in quick time. Tempers were fraying and toys were coming out the pram. Fortunately we pulled it back, had a better second half and eventually bowled the oppo out for 190. They had a couple of decent bats but we should have done better. After tea, Has and Adil batted very well. The bowling wasn't the strongest but Has in particular was watchful and built an innings. Both scored solid fifties before falling, leaving Brad and Stav with a few runs to knock off before the rain got heavy. |

With Liam ill, Al took over the captaincy, and Liam's tossing form. Another toss lost and we were batting. Adil fell early, but Has and Strav made a good start, getting us to 43 before both fell, and Brad too. Again we were in a spot of bother, and the oppo's tails were up. With the added responsibility, Al applied himself, building solid partnerships with (5 life) Shorty, Madhav and then Padam - who each scored in the twenties - taking us over the 200 mark.
The oppo got off to a good start bludgeoning Doc out the attack. Shorty was bowling well but chances were going down. Eventually a caught behind stuck and from then wickets fell regularly. The 7 and 8 threw their wickets away for a few cheap runs much to their no. 5s frustration. The 9 & 5 built a partnership and were keeping the runs ticking over, but eventually the pressure led to a mistake from the 5 and we wrapped up the game. Shorty bowled 'very good', and was well supported by Stav and Brad. It was a comfortable victory but we can still improve by not losing wickets in clusters, and holding out chances. |

After winning the toss we asked them to have bat.
Peri and Willo started us off. After a few overs Peri wanted a third slip! Two balls later the ball owas in third slips hands! They began to make some runs till Willo took a good caught and bowled after a drop from Ben behind off Peri. Some good bowling before Fawad replaced Peri. They went after him early and two wickets later they were struggling for runs after a good catch from Dan V. Their number 7 then began his streaky innings. He was dropped on 8, 18, 43, 50+ and a few other times! Mally replaced Willo and began well going on to pick up 3 wickets in his 10. The number 7 then began to free his arms to move into the fifties but with Tayyab into the attack and picking up 3 to finish the game with then on 143-10 off 43.4. The less said about the fielding the better! Our reply didn't start well as Dan V nicked behind at the end off the first over. Ben started the next by losing the ball in Trent Park. Him and Robbie continued to build to move the scoreboard on before Robbie got out bowled for 18. Peri, Peter and Alan were back in the hut for 8, 0 and 0. Kash came and joined Ben to build another partnership to take them with in 40. Before Kash was caught behind for 19, not before Ben passed 50 for week number 2 in a row. Mally has a short stay of 2 before also being caught behind. Fawad joined Ben at the crease with 30 to win. They brought their openers back into the attack to which Fawad began hitting reaching 24* off not many balls! Hitting their opener back over his head for 4 to win the game. |

Cheshunt inserted us, but Adil and Has got us off to a flyer (44-0). After losing the new ball, we then struggled against the second new ball collapsing to 52-4. Stav was still at the crease and needed someone to stick with him. Carl and Boris each did that to put on 50 run partnerships before Liam joined the party in a 100 run partnership with Stav. The 'gun' batsman's 'sick' innings ending on 138 'innit'. Richie's comeback was short lived but Adam and Liam saw us set Cheshunt 270 to win.
Cheshunt looked to be positive from the start, but the opener soon looped up a catch to Adil. Carl (in particular) and Raja (except for a wide over) both bowled really well and were backed up in the field too with good catches from Brad and Boris. Wickets fell regularly and we wrapped it up quickly with Has taking the final wicket. |

Having lost the toss we were put into bat. After a shaky start where Chris edged two fours down the 3rd man we were 24 off 8 overs before again Chris edged one but this time it was to slip unfortunately. He was gone for 14. Fawad came in at three to join Ben. In the next 11 overs they built at 65 run partnership the highest partnership of the twos season so far. Fawad made 36 with some nice aerial hits but he went for one more but could only find deep long on's hands as he was caught. 89-2 with Peri now in. A tentative start from Peri and Ben being careful till drinks saw them to 98 off 25 overs. They then worked the ball about till their new bowler had a big LBW appeal to Peri. Peri wasn't pleased about this so smashed the next two balls throught mid wicket for four which kick started his innings and the run rate for us. During Peri's onslaught of runs Ben hit a cover drive to finally pass 50. As the partnership grew to 49 all was going well till Peri tried to go again but was bowled for 27. Robbie joined Ben as the took some quick singles in the next few overs before a tired Ben tried to hit one through leg off middle and missed, plum LBW gone for 55 but the platform was set at 142 off 37 overs for us to set 200+. Alan came in and with Robbie began to dispatch the bowlers as they put together a 66 run partnership in 10 overs to take us to 208 before Robbie looked like he’d got a hold of another one only for it to just go up as he was caught at mid off for 26. Aidan joined Alan, as they put on 10 in the final two overs to be 218 for 5 off 50 overs. Alan ended 34* and Aiden on 2*, a good score but runs where there to be had on this batting track.
After tea Willo and Peri started well with Peri striking in his second over having their open beaten for pace and miscuing a cut to Chris as cover. Willo joined in next over having their number three bowled for 0. More tight bowling happened and Willo struck again two overs later bowling their number two with a good slower ball. They were now 15 for 3 off 9 overs. This is where they got away as their numbers 4 and 5 both made fifties despite some good bowling from Mally and Fawad neither could make the break through. Tayyab came in and couldn't find his length as they went after him, but their number 5 was dealing in boundaries as he had crap and couldn't take quick singles. Robbie replaced Mally and Alan came on for Tayyab. As they moved to a 150 partnership Alan struck getting their number 4 for 72. Then Robbie bowled their number 6 for 2 leaving them 172 for 5 now off 45. 5 overs to go and 45 to get they'd have to score quickly to get there! In the next over Alan struck again getting their number 5 bowled for 67. As they tried to go for it number 7 hit Robbie for 6 and was then dropped in the deep going again. Now being 196 off 49 needing 13 off the last Alan was bowling no boundaries was the target. With three off the first three some hitting was needed, instead Alan had the number 8 LBW trying to heave it to leg. A six and four needed by the new batsman but he could only manage a single and the last ball was a dot. The game was won by 18 runs but if they had been able to run more singles maybe the game would have been different. Some good batting, bowling and fielding with some improved keeping from Ben needed. |

After winning the toss we asked them to have a bat. With a good start from Bilal and Willo. Willo had their captain caught and bowled, leaving them 19-1 off 7 overs. Their number three then came in chanced his arm against anything not on the stumps. A 48 run partnership of which he made 45 was made before Deleep took a blinder in the deep of Mally to have them 67-2. With their number two batting for the test match, number 4 came in and made 12, before being bowled by Mally. Fawad had been keeping it tight down the other end till Dave B replaced him. He began well with a wicket maiden removing their opener who got 16 off 34 overs. This started the collapse as the next three wickets fell for 5 runs, as they were 110-7. Mally picked up the number 5 for 18, while Dave B picked up 6 and 7 for 0 and 2 respectively. After bowling he second wicket maiden Dave B then got their number 9 out for his fourth wicket, after which he forgot how to bowl as the final three balls went for a wide a huge wide and then a no ball 2. Thankfully Tayyab hadn't forgot and picked up the number 9 with the final ball in his second over. They ended on 126-9 off 43 overs. (They only had 10 players)
The first two overs started well...clearly too well as they took off their opener and brought on what can only be described as a grenade launcher! Fawad fell for the trap going for the big one down to deep square leg. Deleep came in at three and was quickly back out again for two having been bowled leaving us 19-2 off 6 overs. Dave B and Robbie then kept the scoreboard ticking over as they built a 59 run partnership for the third wicket before their captain out bowled Robbie for 28. Kash joined Dave B as they put on a further 18 runs taking us to 96. Dave B looked well set and on 47 before he was bowled by opener coming back. He batted well but this left us with 30 runs to get and two new batsmen. Ben joined Kash at the crease, no sooner than he had that Kash was caught in slips for 4 only two balls after Dave B was out. This meant two batsmen yet to face with 30 runs to get, this perked the opposition up as they believed they now had a real chance to win. Dan V was the new batsman. The next five overs went for only 9 runs as they saw out their opening bowlers to see what else they had. They skipper came back on and with the fourth ball Ben pulled him for 6 bringing them with in 14 of winning. A bowling change from both ends saw only 2 runs come off them. Three fours in two overs from Ben meant they were 130-5 off 40.3 overs and won the game. Dan V ended on 6* and Ben on 23*. Another good win for the Two's, 3 from 2! |

Having won the toss Botany Bay elected to bat. They soon regretted this decision as some tight and accurate bowling from Willo and Peri limited them to 17-5. Peri ended with 8 overs 4 maidens 9 runs and 4 wickets which set their top order back to the hut quickly. After a few hits from their number 3 who got to 15 Willo had him caught behind for his second, so they were 36-6. Mally and Bilal took over and kept it tight. Their number 8 got lucky a few times some tight chances as he made 32. With him their captain, he made a slow but steady 26 before Bilal removed them both. In the end the tight start but the team with the ball and the field ended with them being all out for 113. With Dave B and Tayyab picking up the other wickets.
After tea we set about the chase. Keith and Dave B started out well both picking up boundaries and rotating the strike. With a stable base set they kicked onto an opening partnership of 48. Just as all was looking like plain sailing to the total we lost 4 wickets in the space of 18 runs while 7 overs also went by (56-4). Robbie and Peter came together in a steady 25 run partnership that made us all worry less about another huge Compton collapse! After Robbie couldn't get all of one and was caught at point for 12. Ben joined Peter at the crease. 15 runs later and we were on 96-6 with Peter having now been caught too. Thankfully these two saw us through to the 114 target even if Ben did deny an second byes so he could hit the winning runs. Mally ended on 2* and Ben on 17*. |

Having lost the toss we were in the field. Shorty, in particular, and Liam bowled tight at the start as Adelaide struggled for runs. At first drinks they had only 30 runs off 17 overs, with shorty claiming the only wicket. We let them off the hook a bit in the next twenty (though Adam did put the opener out his misery) until Adil pulled it back. Then Has kept it right as he and Liam wrapped up the tail.
160 to win, which we made light work of, Has and Brad set the platform, until brad was caught & bowled, though overseas Dan continues the good work, launching a spinner or two for huge sixes. Has threw a fifty away, and sars was lbw but a cameo from Al and we were there only 3 down with plenty of batting to come. |
